Once we left Greece for Italy the doors seemed less interesting but the handles and knobs and knockers started catching my attention. So here is a way too detailed look at Italian knockers, knobs and handles.
If you think the handle above is suggestive you should have seen the interior of this bar in Sicily. The inside was a monument to all things phallic from chairs to beer taps to glasses and wall and ceiling art it was a veritable penis palace – Julia was much more intrigued than I was to say the least.
We saw lots of knockers and other architectural details with an Egyptian theme.
Lions and tigers were another popular theme for door hardware.
Excuse the off-color joke – I just have always thought that Sophia Loren was one of the most beautiful women to walk the earth.
